Omega Rom on Samsung SIII and Battery Performance

As any Owner of SIII would agree, it’s an excellent phone but the battery life leaves a lot to desire. I had mine for almost 3 months now and couldn’t come to terms with having to charge the phone twice a day.

When I though I had had enough, I started looking around for bigger batteries.

The first thing I did was buy a Chinese 4500 miliampere battery pack for SIII. This one was huge and came with a back cover to accommodate this battery.

It worked great and now the battery would last for 2-3 days, which was awesome., not to mention that it was only AED 70 on Souq.com . however the phone was losing it’s appeal, it was almost double in thickness now and i wanted to get back to the same Slim SIII I bargained for.

The next option was to look at firmware tweaks that could get me more juice out of the battery.  There are apps like Juice Defender that try to help conserve your battery ; but in my case none of the apps helped much. I realized that the battery life was bad either due to a demanding hardware, or bloatware built into the OS.

Many People Reported having improved battery after flusing the stock ROM, so I decided to give it a try.

Omega ROM seems to be the most reliable , safe and almost identical to the original Stock ROM that comes with your SIII, so I thought of giving it a try.  There are lots of guides available to help you with it.

Rooting the phone through odin and CF Root, I installed Omega. The whole process took about 15-20 minutes.  Now the phone is running on Omega and I have also the features of original SIII, only the SVoice doesn’t work.  Maybe I did something wrong, or maybe it doesn’t work with Omega, but I was never a big fan of Svoice anyway. It’s nowhere close to siri in accuracy.

Now the Scoop, the Battery life is so much better now, I get about TWICE THE JUICE.  Yesterday I was able to keep it running for36 HOURS before having to recharge !!

Rooting and Flashing the ROM is not for Everyone , but if you are the adventurous kind, Go ahead and use a custom ROM for your android. Battery life isn’t the only perk you will get.
